The Innovative Women of Vape in honor of Women’s History Month, Lisa Gano

Lisa Gano- CO-Owner VR Labs LLC

Lisa Gano is the Co-owner of VR Labs LLC, home of VapeRite.com. She co-owns the Atlanta based company with her husband Todd Gano, and together they are making strides in the vaping industry.

Before they began their journey into the world of vaping, Lisa was a teacher for nearly two decades. Todd, a cigarette smoker, was running his own company. When the recession hit in 2008, they lost their business and had to think about how they were going to provide for their family. That meant cutting down on one of their highest expenses. Cigarettes.

While Todd searched for a new job online, he saw an ad for an electronic cigarette. He had tried everything from the gum to hypnotism to quit smoking and nothing seemed to work. The 808 cigalike, the only thing available in 2009, was a game a changer! Once he began vaping, he quit smoking immediately and the benefits went way beyond financial. They both became excited about this new product that helped him make the switch away from combustible cigarettes to something that has been proven to be much better. “The differences I witnessed were amazing!” says Lisa.

While Todd was on the computer, he set up a website and began selling, retailing and wholesaling vaping products. Later, they transitioned from selling 3rd party e-liquids to making their own. The business continued to grow and the decision was made to open a retail space; the first one of its kind in Atlanta.

When they decided to open their new space, Lisa gave up teaching to help on the retail side of the business and she doesn't regret it. She loved teaching and enjoyed the kids. Being an educator was her way of contributing to society. Many aspects of teaching have helped her in the continued growth of VR Labs and VapeRite.

“I felt I did a great job in what I did. I truly enjoyed teaching my students and many other aspects of the job. There is a lot more to teaching than just teaching the kids and I was ready to make the switch to a field that had made such a difference in my life and the life of my family. I don’t regret the change for a moment. We have been in business now for 10 years and I have met some wonderful people and love what I do.”

Now she spends her days ensuring business operations are running smoothly. There isn’t anything she can’t do. She began with shipping and receiving and now handles HR, payroll, all of the administrative tasks, as well as oversees the retail stores.

“Todd is the idea guy. He sees the big picture; he has a wonderful vision of where we need to go along with the drive to get there. My job is to help him achieve his vision,” she shared.

Lisa uses her background as a teacher to continue to educate consumers about the vaping industry. Coming from a family of educators, becoming a source of knowledge and information within the industry, was a natural evolution. Now she contributes to society in a new way.

She helps inform people in her community, even teachers at her son’s school, about vaping. To her, it's essential that vapers and non-vapers alike, know what is happening in the industry. There is a lot more going on than what is shown in the headlines and the amount of false information is profound. “We have to speak up and educate those around us. People need to make decisions based on facts, not fear.”

Lisa states: "Learning is a continuous affair. VR Labs consistently attends meetings for SFATA and VTA to stay abreast of what is happening in the nation. It is vital to be a part of various groups on the local and national level that can help keep you up to date with what is happening in the industry. Attending these meetings helps me to connect with others in the industry and I always come away with a wealth of information to help as we move forward. We have to continue to get the word out there and be apart of the solution. Everyone’s voice does make a difference!”
